The beauty of Maine is such that you can't really see it clearly while you live there. But now that I've moved away, with each return it all becomes almost hallucinatory: the dark blue water, the rocky coast with occasional flashes of white sand, the jasper stone beaches along the coast, the pine and fir forests somehow vivid in their stillness. “
Shortly after we arrived in Portland, ME after our transit north, we got ready for our first one week charter in Maine.
A lovely family of 9 joined us aboard in Rockland. We we very happy to have Isabel, a 9 month old toddler with us.
We visited Holbrook Island where the family had the chance to hike in the island sanctuary.
Next anchorage was Stonington, Deer Island, a great old fishing village to explore. Close by is located Green Island, where part of the group kayaked to and others went for a quick relaxing hike.
We visited the legendary Wooden Boat School, where we we lucky to be able to watch a group of seals sunbathing near us. Our journey continued to Seal Cove where the family celebrated a birthday, played board games, enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding.
We have saved the best for last, a relaxing sail through Somes Sound, the pictures fjard of Mount Desert Island, the main site of Acadia National Park. Such a beautiful place, it gave courage to our guests to jump in the refreshing water!
